Catalog, corporate and Midwest brands

Chicago is home to many large companies and a strong catalog tradition. A lot of local model work is steady and practical. Retailers shoot seasonal product pages, consumer brands need people holding their goods, and corporate teams need clean images of staff, meetings and offices for websites and annual reports.

Models here often have a polished, everyday look that suits these jobs. Many can switch between a catalog set in the morning and a corporate scene in the afternoon. ShootModel lets you filter by category, so you can look for commercial, e-commerce or lifestyle talent and see who is open on your date.

Moving people and gear in Chicago

Downtown parking is expensive, and loading zones are watched closely. Many studios in the West Loop have freight entrances in the alley, so ask for alley access when you plan load-in. In winter, give talent more travel time, since snow can slow trains and roads.

City and park permits in Chicago

The Chicago Film Office handles permits for shoots on the public way. Its guidance says a permit is needed when equipment or vehicles take up the street or sidewalk, or when the shoot blocks people or traffic. Small handheld shoots that do not get in anyone's way often do not need one. Prop weapons, stunts and special effects always need a permit.

Parks are a separate matter. The Chicago Park District asks for its own permit for photography in its parks, including many non-commercial sessions. A few famous spots, such as Millennium Park and Maggie Daley Park, are run by other groups, so you contact them directly. Private buildings need the owner's approval.

LocationWhat usually applies
Sidewalk, handheld, no blocking Often no permit
Lights, vehicles or blocked traffic Chicago Film Office permit
Chicago Park District park Park District photo permit
Millennium Park or Maggie Daley Park Ask the park's own office
Office, hotel or private studio Owner approval

Talk to the Film Office or the Park District before you set the date.

Planning a Chicago shoot around the weather

Chicago has four clear seasons, which is a gift for catalog teams that need real fall leaves or real snow. Fall gives warm color and mild air. Summer brings long days on the lakefront, but wind off the lake can move hair and fabric. Winter is cold and gray, so outdoor scenes should be short and the model needs a warm place to wait between setups. Spring can swing from warm to cold in a day, so keep a backup indoor location.

06

Booking for a whole marketing department

Corporate teams often book many shoots a year. Brand plans add seats for colleagues, approval steps, call sheets and one invoice each month on the Production plan. Everyone on the team sees the same bookings and releases.

FAQ

01

Do I need a permit to photograph a model in a Chicago park?

Usually yes. The Chicago Park District asks for a photo permit in its parks, and some parks like Millennium Park have their own office.

02

Can I shoot on a Chicago sidewalk without a permit?

Often you can, if you use handheld gear and do not block people or traffic. Equipment or vehicles on the public way need a Film Office permit.

03

What is the best season for outdoor shoots in Chicago?

Late summer and fall are the most comfortable. Fall adds color, and summer gives long evenings by the lake.

04

Can I book the same model for a winter and a summer catalog?

Yes. Send a new booking for each date. Your past bookings and releases stay saved, so it is easy to rebook.

05

What if the model cannot make it because of a snowstorm?

If the talent cancels or does not show up, you get the full booking charge back and help finding someone else. For weather on outdoor shoots, you can also move the date within 30 days if both sides agree.

06

Can my whole team use one account?

Yes. Brand plans include seats for teammates, from 3 on Studio up to 100 on Enterprise.
